The NIOS Level 2
The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and is widely recognized as equivalent to the tenth grade (Secondary) by the Association of Indian Universities and all major national and state boards. This certification is valid for admission to higher secondary courses, competitive examinations, and is fully eligible for apostille and embassy attestation for international opportunities.
To enroll, students must be at least 14 years of age. The curriculum offers a highly flexible “Choice-Based Credit System” where students must pass a minimum of five subjects, including at least one language but no more than two languages. Beyond the core language requirements, students can choose from a diverse range of academic and vocational subjects in Group B. NIOS provides comprehensive Self-Learning Material (SLM) in digital formats and through a network of study centers (AI) for personal contact programs. As the world’s largest open schooling system, it is specifically designed to be completed in private or distance mode, offering up to nine chances to clear examinations over a five-year period.
